Exercise in the City

Exercise in the city? More like, “I live in one of the most expensive cities in The World and I can’t afford a gym…” Don’t worry, we feel you on that one. But with breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge at any turn, let the city’s beauty inspire you to take advantage of mother nature’s natural facilities. Our staff at Sun & Cobalt has taken to the streets to share  our staff’s top five favorite local outdoor exercises.

Running

Between all of the city’s parks and trails, such as the Presidio, Lands End, Chrissy Field, Marina Blvd, Golden Gate Bridge, and Embarcadero, your morning run is guaranteed to come with a scenic view.

Hills, hills, and more hills!

Whether it’s walking, running or doing lunges up those bad boys, San Francisco hills are the fastest way to achieve an envious booty.

Parks

Who said jungle gyms are just for kids? Head over to your local park and use monkey bars as a pull-up bar.  Our personal favorite is Collis P. Huntington Park, located at the top of Nob Hill across from Grace Cathedral. Here is a park where you can get your workout on with a side of history as you look upon one of the most beautiful churches in California.

Stairs

Who needs a stairmaster when you live in a city? Climbing stairs while running errands or hitting the mall is great workout to get that heart rate up. We recommend hitting the Filbert Steps. Not only will these steps guarantee a killer workout, but they also offer a great lookout point over The Bay and Coit Tower.

Bicycling

Hop on your bike and pedal across the Golden Gate Bridge (date idea, anyone?) With stunning natural venues like the Headlands and Sausalito waiting for you at the finish line, you’ll hardly notice the hard work it’ll take to get there!
